The Breeden Company not only creates communities, where people can live, dine and shop, but the company’s motto and culture include an emphasis on being a part of the communities in which we, ourselves, live, work and play. We truly believe “teamwork makes the dream work;” that’s why our company motto is “One Team. One Dream.”
Jamie Kane, Regional Director with The Breeden Company’s Property Management division, is a staunch supporter of “One Team. One Dream.” Not only does Jamie firmly believe in giving back to the community, he also believes comradery, teamwork, and giving back amongst his teams make for the greatest team morale. Jamie and his on-site community teams are the first to jump at volunteer opportunities that support local non-profits. From working with The Samaritan House in Virginia Beach, VA, alongside industry cohorts and the Virginia Apartment Management Association, to volunteering numerous man-hours for ForKids, a Chesapeake, VA-based non-profit focused on breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty for families & children. Jamie and his team organized toys for the ForKids 2020 holiday drive, moved furniture for the organization from their old office to their new office earlier this year (on a very hot Spring day!) and have been proud sponsors of their fundraising endeavors such as the annual ForKids art auction. “It’s important to work together as a team, as a work family, to work in and with the communities. In our industry, we work long hours and, sometimes, we are with our work-family more than our own families. It’s important to be cohesive, have fun and do for others,” says Kane of his team and their group ideology. Jamie’s philosophy and mindset are also reflected in the low employee turnover rate in his region.
Rianna Elliott, Property Manager at The Lofts of Front Street in Norfolk, VA states she hasn’t had this sort of support, training, and team comradery from other companies. “If you need help, you ask anyone and they’re willing to pitch in happily. It’s a work family, and I love it.” Notably, during the recent July 4th holiday, several property managers wanted to take a vacation. Sandra Bair Szczepanek, Property Manager of Aqua on 25th, offered her time to oversee the communities’ operations. Being on-call 24/7 during a major holiday weekend is no small feat, but Sandra was happy to help her colleagues!
Jamie and his team are not only coworkers, they are friends. Jamie is teaching his teams the importance of being a part of a community-from "company community" to being involved in the community. Even navigating the uncertainties of a pandemic this year, Jamie and his team made sure to continue to give back to the community and to those who needed hope and happiness more than anyone else. Nothing can stop such an amazing group of people from doing their part! They truly exude “One Team. One Dream.”
