Established in 2024, BREEDEN CARES represents, in part, an organization-wide initiative for community engagement, crafted in partnership with our regional and local charitable organizations. Our mission is to forge a meaningful and enduring influence on the neighborhoods we support. We’re dedicated to mobilizing our workforce in volunteer efforts that resonate with our corporate ethos and contribute to the enhancement of our global community. Our aspiration is to advance societal growth and well-being, nurture a spirit of collective effort and camaraderie among our team members and cultivate robust bonds with community groups and charitable entities. Through motivating our staff to invest their expertise and time, our program aspires to instill a commitment to philanthropy and civic duty within our corporate culture, thereby effecting a real change in the welfare of individuals and the broader community.

In addition to our community outreach efforts, BREEDEN CARES is also committed to fostering an environment of growth and learning through our internal mentorship program. We believe that mentorship is a cornerstone of professional development, and by pairing experienced team members with those newer to the company or their careers, we create opportunities for knowledge sharing, skill enhancement and personal development. This internal mentorship initiative is designed to align with our values of continuous improvement and collective success, ensuring that as we contribute to the world around us, we are also investing in the growth and advancement of our own team members. This holistic approach to corporate responsibility strengthens our internal community, enhances our service impact and reinforces our dedication to making a positive difference in every aspect of our operations.

“Helping people has always been the number one goal of what I wanted to do when I was younger. I never had a clear profession in mind; I just knew I wanted help others and make them smile. Being a Community Manager allows me to do this every day; however, The Breeden Company allows me to do this outside on a broader spectrum and give back to our local community. There are many reasons I love working for this company, but volunteering is one of the main reasons I love working for The Breeden Company.”

- Sandra

What We Do

THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING BACK

At The Breeden Company, we recognize the profound importance of giving back to the communities we serve. It is not just a duty; it is a fundamental part of who we are. We are committed to serving those in need, whether it's people and/or animals facing hardships or organizations striving to make a difference. Our teams come together, drawing strength from the collective spirit of compassion, to lend a helping hand where it's needed most.

Through partnerships with impactful nonprofit organizations such as Eggleston, Children's Hospital of The Kings Daughters, Virginia Symphony Orchestra or the area SPCAs  we actively contribute to meaningful initiatives that uplift lives and build stronger communities. These collaborative efforts not only make a tangible difference in the lives of others but also instill a deeper sense of purpose within our team members. By coming together to serve, we reaffirm our work extends beyond transactions—it's about leaving a positive imprint on the world around us. Because, ultimately, we believe that life's true richness lies not in what we acquire, but in what we give.

For the love of dogs

To Bonnie Moore, President of Breeden Property Management, a sense of community at every Breeden community is paramount. Bonnie oversees management of The Breeden Company’s 45+ multifamily assets. An avid pet lover, Bonnie, in 2023, spearheading a “pet friendliest” initiative at every Breeden apartment community. The Breeden Company, years ago, was one of the few management companies to welcome 3 pets per home with no weight restrictions.

The Breeden Company, in partnership with Bark Buildings, provides programming and events for pets and their pet parents, such as “Paws and Pinot” evenings or photographs with Santa Claus. They also name a “Pet of the Month,” publicize the pet on social media and give the pet a Bark Box present!

Buddy Brigade

As a property management division, we support organizations such as CHKD and their Buddy Brigade program, a volunteer-based pet therapy and pet happiness program, with donations of dog treats and supplies to assist the K9s. Communities hold supply drives throughout the year in support of CHKD’s cause.

Thanksgiving Food drive

As a property management division, we support non-profit organizations such as ForKids, the Chesapeake based collective focused on reducing homelessness and food insecurities for children. The Breeden Company remains steadfast in our support of the organization by providing time, energy and funds to their various events such as the backpack drive, where every Breeden community donated school supplies and monies, totaling over $40,000.

We support their annual Thanksgiving food drive, where we collect food from area grocery stores and deliver to the ForKids warehouse for distribution.

It takes a village

We believe it takes a village. Recently, The Breeden Company partnered with our friends at SL Nusbaum to assist with set up for Norfolk SPCA’s annual fundraising event.
We believe in the power of personal and professional friendships, collaboration and comradery - especially when it’s to support the animals!

Eggleston Trees

Festive Tree Setup

The Breeden Company actively volunteers with Eggleston, a Norfolk-based non-profit organization. During the holiday season, our collaboration shines brightly as we come together to prepare for Eggleston’s festive tree setup. Our team of volunteers takes on the task with enthusiasm and dedication... as we unload, fluff and set up over 1500 Christmas trees, wreaths and other holiday decorations. This significant effort not only brings joy to the community but also supports Eggleston’s mission to provide education, training and employment for individuals with disabilities.

The volunteers’ and Eggleston associates’ hard work transforms the Eggleston Garden Center space into a winter wonderland, where the holiday spirit is tangible. The trees, once set up, are ready to be picked by families looking to bring the holiday cheer into their homes. The Breeden Company’s volunteers ensure that every tree stands tall and proud, becoming a symbol of the season’s warmth and generosity.

The Breeden Company is dedicated to the betterment of animals, an initiative we have carried out that started with our company founder, Ramon W. Breeden, Jr.

We believe we have a “voice” and the ability to assist animals. We support several pet-centric organizations with our time and funds. Portsmouth Police Department K9 Division - Globally, our organization supports the Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Portsmouth police K9 divisions by supplying custom fitted ballistic K9 vests to all police dogs. To us, it’s just as important that the K9 officers go home safe every night.
