The demand for dependable, high-speed internet is greater than ever. Between the rise of hybrid and remote work, streaming services, smart home technology, security systems and more, the internet has become an important aspect of the average American’s daily life.
“Newly constructed buildings are very straightforward when it comes to implementing Wi-Fi because it’s easy to plan for and put the infrastructure in place,” states Dale Sennie, a director of innovative technology at The Breeden Co., a development and management company headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Breeden has owned, managed and developed approximately 20,000 apartments across the United States. “It’s tough to deploy Wi-Fi connectivity in podium-style developments,” Sennie adds. “Since podium and high-rise buildings are enclosed, there can be a lot of interference and overlap. Comparatively, garden-style communities don’t tend to get that level of inference due to their open style of architecture. It’s easier to retrofit a garden-style asset because areas such as attics and outside spaces tend to be a lot easier to access.”
